Quintana Roo Governor Roberto
\nBorge Angulo was named Peace Ambassador, and the state was designated as the
\n2012-2013 World Tourism Capital for Peace by the World Organization for Peace
\n(WOFP) on Sunday.<\/font><\/p>\n

These honors were given to
\nthe region because it is considered a model for outstanding cultural and
\ntourism programs, as well as the preservation and promotion of Mayan culture,
\nthe kindness of its people and its quality of tourism services.<\/font><\/p>\n

<\/font><\/font><\/font><\/font>During the event, the
\ngovernor said that the awards will serve to showcase to the world the region\u2019s
\ntourism and culture. He was accompanied by Quintana Roo Tourism Secretary Juan
\nCarlos Gon\u00e1lez Hern\u00e1ndez; the WOFP Director for Mexico, Central America and the
\nCaribbean Danclair Dar\u00edo del Valle Hamilton; and WOFP consultant Juan Pablo
\nMirabent Pizarro Su\u00e1rez.<\/font> <\/font><\/font><\/font><\/font><\/font><\/font><\/p>\n

After receiving the
\nlifelong honorific of Peace Ambassador<\/font>, the governor spoke about the
\nsignificance of Quintana Roo\u2019s programs being recognized by the United Nations
\nas a model for building a better world.<\/font><\/font><\/p>\n

He said that the awards
\nimply more responsibility and new challenges, and that he will continue with
\nthe intense task of promoting the region\u2019s cultural, archeological and tourism
\ntreasures, as well as increasing the quality of services, infrastructure and
\nlife of the people of Quintana Roo.<\/font><\/p>\n

\u201cQuintana Roo was selected
\namong eight important international tourist centers because of its
\nsustainability, organization, and quality services and activities. It was
\njudged for its archeological sites and splendid culture, as well as the
\npeople\u2019s dedication to service, and its pleasant year-round climate,\u201d he said.<\/font><\/p>\n

Quintana Roo was selected
\non May 7 in Geneva, Switzerland by the WOFP, an organization governed by the
\nUnited Nations, among the following international tourism center finalists: Rio
\nde Janeiro, Brasil; Giza, Egypt; New York, United States; Agra, Uttar Pradesh
\nState, India; Rome, Italy; Dubai, the United Arab Emirates; and Paris, France.<\/font><\/p>\n
